“I will help whenever and however I can because there will be a day that I cannot”
This simple philosophy from her grandmother, is what inspires Jessica to volunteer and give back wherever she sees a need and contribute to the overall solution. She stays motivated through visualizing the outcome of her work and the progression of opportunities, and simultaneously taking note of the positive reactions of those around her. While the initial reason for volunteering is to be a part of the success of an organization, Jessica is aware of the new skills she has acquired, and the effects volunteering will have on her resume when she and her family return to the civilian world. She has learned that being a leader and having influence can be leveraged even as a volunteer and has created a network of like-minded individuals and a system of people with specific skills that can help her in reaching her personal and professional goals. Jessica’s passion for helping others in her community is proof that one person can have a large impact and that through volunteering we can find our purpose.
