Meet Mya, our ornament design winner! She will be attending Kubasaki High School in the Fall as a sophomore. Mya’s ornament was inspired by her love of exploration and travel around Okinawa. She invites you to have a closer look at the ornament. Can you find the Japanese flag? Do you see the star sand? Have you ever ridden on the Ferris Wheel at American Village? Okinawa is known for it’s Shisa Dogs, Soba Noodles, Beer, Aquarium and Cherry Blossoms. Mya hopes that you love the ornament as much as she has enjoyed the artistic process in creating her original Okinawa ornament for the Fleet Gift Shop.
Every year the Fleet Gift Shop partners with the local high schools to host a design contest for their annual ornament. The winner’s design is made into an ornament at an Okinawan facility which employs the elderly and disabled. Through partnerships such as these, the Fleet Gift Shop continues positively impacting our community, as well as, yours. Mya’s design will be released on October 9th at 4pm where you have the opportunity to meet the mind behind the ornament and see what other holiday surprises the Fleet Gift Shop has in store. Pay attention to our social media for any updates on the Holiday Opening.
